Search Engine Optimization May 11th, 2006I’ve been telling my friends like Jim, Todd, and Andy to charge more money! They all complain about the phone ringing off the hook. In the invisible hand world that means you have demand so charge more money and make that phone ring less for less work or at least hire more phone picker uppers.
I guess I’m finally getting through because Jim is now requiring a face to face meeting for new clients although I still think his prices are way too low for the level of service.
Although I’ve yet to meet Rand (Kat hook me up!) I think he gets it. Stop answering the phone, create a bad ass service, and charge $50k for it! I’m so sick of the Keyword Ranking types raking in the massive dollars from desperate clients and I want to see the guys that actually make a return on your investment make a few bucks.
Love it. Rand, I’m calling you this week. Its about poker.

I guess I’m just a softy at heart. After years of watching companies pay too much money for poor service, I want to offer a “bad ass service” that’s affordable for every business.

Requirements to become a regular link building client:
Your site has to have been live for at least 2 years.
You site must already have at least 50 “natural” backlinks.
Your site must have potential (in our eyes) for success.
You must be willing to spend $5000 per month for our service.

We started making similar requirements and have met with great success. We also take on a handful of smaller clients for commission work, though, because in the long run that 5-10% commission can turn into tens of thousands a month with no work.

Thanks for addressing an important and timely issue here. I run a small SEO firm and have been bombarded with calls and emails for new business lately. Many of those prospects are only half-serious about making a true commitment. As a small firm, I have a choice. I must either hire on additional staff to meet the need, or I must find a way to be as profitable and produce as high quality a service as possible for a very small number of clients. Really the only choice is the latter, as I’ve tried and simply cannot find adequate staff to expand. Given this situation - which I suspect is similar to the guys you mentioned above (although they likely have it to a greater magnitude than myself), you need to make the client commit - both financially and in other ways. I love Jim’s idea b/c it lets the client know they are serious and only want to work when both sides agree to be partners in their success. Good luck Jim, and good luck all!

We’re sure you’re unaware that this idiot and Seo scammer has been under investigation.
We’re doing a worldwide search to locate all his gullible and naïve clients who he had duped into paying thousands of dollars for worthless seo services for a class action lawsuit.
Therefore don’t be surprised if in the future you get a subpoena from us.

Why don’t you make it clear who you are talking about? I’m sure you aren’t talking about me but I would be surprised if you were refering to Rand as well. These are hefty claims you are lobbing from behind an anonymous post.
