No More ‘Proportional Response’ Please!
Politics July 27th, 2006
If I here more more idiot utter the words “proportional response” with respect to the situation in the middle east I’m going to puke. Israel was attacked by a terrorist organization who makes it clear that their ultimate goal is to exterminate every jew in Israel and kill as many Americans as possible.
Its unfortunate that innocent Lebanese are in the path of the Israeli army and I can’t understand exactly why they bombed a Lebanon base but I have no problem with Israel doing everything in their power to eliminate a group like Hezbollah.

If Israel is successful in destroying Hezbollah, how many new terrorists will be born out of the bloodshed? Unfortunately, I do not think our modern conception of warfare can carve out the cancer that is terrorism - it takes a much finer instrument.

I think the finer instrument is what we dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

I think that if you think that an atomic response is appropriate, then you think that an atomic attack is appropriate as well.
Terrorism is an attack by a much weaker force on a much stronger force, when that stronger force will no longer address the needs of the weak. It’s the international equivalent of the BMOC getting his car keyed by some geeky bookworm after the jock refuses to acknowledge his rights in the bar.
Most terrorism can be avoided by allowing the minority to have a voice, and share in the influence of the outcome of events. When you take away their ability to be included, they disappear and get guns.
Kinda like the guys that didn’t like being taxed so heavily for tea, and then not being allowed to participate in how they were governed.
Give them a voice and they won’t have to whisper from teh shadows.
