ShoeMoney: How Dare You Question Bluetooth SPAM at Pubcon?!

April 26th, 2006 Tony 2 comments

Speaking of unmanned booths one SUPER annoying thing was this guy who kept Bluetooth spamming everyone telling them to come to his booth at Ad:Tech next week in San Fran. I was told by staffers that Brett Tabke was aware of this and it was going to be stopped. At 4:30 on Weds it was still going on.

I been to a couple of conferences that have bluetooth broadcasts these days. Why would a person accept a connection from an unknown source? Do some devices automatically accept incoming connections? How is that possible? Do these same people also accept unknown WiFi connections? Why would people have their devices set to accept unknown connections? Why would it be someone elses responsibility than their own?

Hehehe. Brett, don’t be so smug! Here is the way you deal with this kind of thing and end up having people like you for it:

“Dude I’m so sorry about that. That asshole has been banned from PubCon indefinitely. Your privacy is important to me and I will not put up with exhibitors spamming my paid attendees.”

Easy right?

God met me on the highway after PubCon

April 26th, 2006 Tony 1 comment

Last Friday I was riding to work feeling really rough after Boston PubCon and saw GOD doing 75 mph on NC 540. Yikes!

I had a great time chatting with everyone at PubCon. Lots of people wore Jay’s glasses.

aaron peanut butter wall

Aaron it wasn’t really my birthday. :) Some of the lads from across the pond thought it was appropriate to sing Happy Birthday to me and I went along. Must be British humor. :)

Greg it was a sincere pleasure to have met you and the BOTW crew. You and your comrades are good people and I’ve shipped you some local goodness from Carrboro, North Cackalackey as a token of my sincere apology for the heated 3AM debate. Please jump on my bar tab one night at SES San Jose and I’m sure you and I can solve the world’s problems.

BoBoTheCat Update : Tabke Says He Isn’t Bobo

April 3rd, 2006 Tony 2 comments

Brett says he isn’t Bobothecat. I suppose its possible but strange nonetheless.
From : End of BoBoTheCat’s Pubcon thread

Brett_Tabke: hehe! too funny. Some people have way too much time on their hands. No, I am not bobothecat. I do use BillTheCat occasionally when programming – it is the default WebmasterWorld beta test account.

All I know is that bobothecat posted a comment on site from IP and later that day I received the following email from Brett Tabke at IP

Hi Guys,

Who actually owns this site?

I am forced by law to defend our trademark on PubCon and have contacted the
attorneys. Trying to figure out where to send the papers.

NCSU Engineering : Ah the Good Old Days

March 30th, 2006 Tony No comments

I did some digging around in to see if I could find some of my first websites while a computer engineering student at NCSU. I was able to find the URL to my first website ( but sadly its no longer in

I did find an archive of my robotics project named LOLA! LOLA was able to navigate a room or hallway and avoid objects and stairwells by processing information received from sonar and tactile sensors. The software was custom written in C by myself and a couple other software engineers and was driven by a small PC running Linux.

And I was thrilled to find a copy of my senior design project codenamed Project Greenlink which was my first database driven website. The task was for the NCSU arboretum and the task was to merge a plants database (Filemaker Pro) with a maps database of the coordinates of the plants. Then I had to tie it all together with a cgi search function for the web.

What was your first site?

Brett Tabke’s Alias BoboTheCat to Attend His First PubCon :)

March 16th, 2006 Tony 5 comments

Brett Tabke has threatened legal action against the non-profit LondonSEO group for allegded trademark violation for use of the phrase ‘PubCon’ on the site.

Shortly before sending the threatening email he posted comments on the site under the alias ‘BoboTheCat’:

# BoboTheCat:

btw – pubcon is trademark owned by webmasterworld inc I believe.

A quick Google of ‘BoboTheCat’ turned up this WMW profile which indeed seems to be Tabke: “… been at it since `94 ( BBS’s since ‘85 )”.

The funny bit is that BoboTheCat posts in his own forum under that alias posing as a newbie thinking of going to his first pubcon in Boston.
