ShoeMoney: How Dare You Question Bluetooth SPAM at Pubcon?!

April 26th, 2006 Tony 2 comments

Speaking of unmanned booths one SUPER annoying thing was this guy who kept Bluetooth spamming everyone telling them to come to his booth at Ad:Tech next week in San Fran. I was told by staffers that Brett Tabke was aware of this and it was going to be stopped. At 4:30 on Weds it was still going on.

I been to a couple of conferences that have bluetooth broadcasts these days. Why would a person accept a connection from an unknown source? Do some devices automatically accept incoming connections? How is that possible? Do these same people also accept unknown WiFi connections? Why would people have their devices set to accept unknown connections? Why would it be someone elses responsibility than their own?

Hehehe. Brett, don’t be so smug! Here is the way you deal with this kind of thing and end up having people like you for it:

“Dude I’m so sorry about that. That asshole has been banned from PubCon indefinitely. Your privacy is important to me and I will not put up with exhibitors spamming my paid attendees.”

Easy right?

God met me on the highway after PubCon

April 26th, 2006 Tony 1 comment

Last Friday I was riding to work feeling really rough after Boston PubCon and saw GOD doing 75 mph on NC 540. Yikes!

I had a great time chatting with everyone at PubCon. Lots of people wore Jay’s glasses.

Aaron it wasn’t really my birthday. :) Some of the lads from across the pond thought it was appropriate to sing Happy Birthday to me and I went along. Must be British humor. :)

Greg it was a sincere pleasure to have met you and the BOTW crew. You and your comrades are good people and I’ve shipped you some local goodness from Carrboro, North Cackalackey as a token of my sincere apology for the heated 3AM debate. Please jump on my bar tab one night at SES San Jose and I’m sure you and I can solve the world’s problems.

Off to Boston Pubcon

April 17th, 2006 Tony No comments

I’m off to Boston for the PubCon. As much as I look forward to seeing everyone again, its tough to leave this beautiful weather and spring fauna we’re enjoying here in NC.

Spring has sprung

Crossing my fingers that I don’t spend half my day in a cab trying to make my way to the Hilton through the marathon traffic.

Realtors Don’t Get the Internet

April 12th, 2006 Tony 2 comments

Yesterday I closed on a new office for NotSleepy and while chatting with the two realtors in my lawyers office I made a mistake I’ve made more than once before. I brought up the internet and real estate websites. It was a mistake because traditional realtors don’t like the internet. The entire realtor industry is shaking in their boots for fear that it spells the end for their personal relationship business and if you bring up this topic to them it often results in barrage of defensive comments like “people still need realtors to find them the property that best suits their needs” and “people still need realtors to help negotiate the best deal for them”.

Yes, I absolutely agree that realtors are are needed. I certainly wouldn’t want to enter into a commercial property transaction without a realtor by my side. Whats frustrating to me is that they don’t get it. The internet and search engines are not the realtor’s enemy. Realtors need to embrace these technologies and stand out from the crowd. For instance, in commercial real estate there is no MLS and as a result no one website can show me all properties currently available that meet my needs in the Triangle area. Its extremely difficult to get an idea of what commercial real estate is currently available in Raleigh. Frustrating for me. Goldmine for a realtor! If I were my realtor I would hire up a software consultant and have them compile all current properties into one web driven database even if it means I have to resort to scraping data from other sites. Pull together as much info as possible on the property and show me some pics. Drop in a contact form, show me the agent’s name and picture, and watch the new leads come pouring in. Judging from the activity on Morgan Carey’s real estate software forum, I think some residential realtors have begun to embrace the web and use it to their advantage and down the road they’ll be the ones that survive.

BoBoTheCat Update : Tabke Says He Isn’t Bobo

April 3rd, 2006 Tony 2 comments

Brett says he isn’t Bobothecat. I suppose its possible but strange nonetheless.
From : End of BoBoTheCat’s Pubcon thread

Brett_Tabke: hehe! too funny. Some people have way too much time on their hands. No, I am not bobothecat. I do use BillTheCat occasionally when programming – it is the default WebmasterWorld beta test account.

All I know is that bobothecat posted a comment on site from IP and later that day I received the following email from Brett Tabke at IP

Hi Guys,

Who actually owns this site?

I am forced by law to defend our trademark on PubCon and have contacted the
attorneys. Trying to figure out where to send the papers.
