Roll your own Ruby on Rails Training

August 31st, 2006 Tony 3 comments

I’ve been wanting to dive into Ruby on Rails for nearly a year now since I saw that amazing 15 minute demonstration on the official site. I’ve known for a long time now that there is something really wrong about the repetitiveness of the code we’ve had to write in Java/JSP everytime we update an object model or change an interface.

Virante’s super clever use of on page optimization

Russ IM’d me today to show me something cool. Very cool. Check out the clever use of on-page optimization to get rankings for a non-competitive phrase: five seo excuses

Pay particular attention to the subdomains and what they spell out. Very slick. I’m sure your phone will be ringing off the hook over at Virante now Russ.

Justilien – So Long and Thanks for All the Links

August 18th, 2006 Tony 2 comments

Its been a busy week here at NotSleepy with several new hires including another programmer who had done some horrifically tedious, blow your brains out data entry for us in the past. :) PHP and Java coding should be a far more gratifying work experience for him.

link building

Justilien (formerly of WeBuildPages) just left our office to head home after spending a week here in Raleigh training some new link builders we’ve just added to the organization. Justilien did two days of very well organized presentation on link building as well as core SEO fundamentals and followed that up with three days of hands on training. Judging from the work they’ve already accomplished in one week with Justilien’s guidance I’d say we’re looking as some quality links coming down the pipeline very soon. Thanks much for the outstanding consulting you’ve provided this week Justilien.

Flickr falls short

August 15th, 2006 Tony 1 comment

Dang! It seems every photo solution is just not quite there yet. My major complaint with Flickr is that they just don’t add the last nice tidbit that would make slideshow a killer app. Currently slideshow doesn’t show title or description.

How about some SF shots? Just don’t do slideshow cause I spent way too much time on titles. :)

I Heart Flickr

Ok, I’ve been in a slow moving relationship with Flickr for the past year or two. Flic wooed me with its super free-easy websites after much frustration with PHP Gallery. I placed a few photos… chilled for a while… placed a few more… and so on. In the past 6 months I’ve really been getting into it since I decided it was worth the small fee for the unlimited sets.

This takes the cake.

Read the comment on my metrocard bike photo. Thanks Andy Padre! Thanks Flickr! Made my day.

Andy Padre, I think you have a knack for viral marketing and don’t even realize it! Call me. :)
